What is a Registered Massage Therapist?A Registered Massage Therapist (R.M.T.) is a regulated health care professional. The College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) is our governing body that sets our Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics. We are regulated under the Regulated Health Practitioners Act and the Massage Therapy Act.
Each therapist has completed a 2200 hour massage therapy program which includes extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, neurology, assessment, manual techniques, and pathology. Then the CMTO requires Massage Therapists to pass a certification exam that consists of a written and practical portion and upon completion a R.M.T. will hold a valid registration to practice as a Massage Therapist in Ontario. As a R.M.T. we are required every three years to continue our education, this keeps us up to date in regards to treatment protocol and new techniques that benefit our clients.
